On Monday, March 30, 2026, Boots on the Farm had the pleasure of visiting Greene County Head Start, where we worked alongside Pre K students, ages 4, to plant raised bed gardens as part of our Farm to ECE efforts.
Through Boots on the Farm, we are able to bring real farm experiences directly to early childhood classrooms and connect children to agriculture in a hands-on and meaningful way. This visit was a beautiful example of that work in action.
From the moment the children stepped outside, their eagerness to learn was clear. Small hands reached into the soil and carefully placed plants into the raised beds, while bright eyes watched closely to make sure each step was done the right way. For many of the students, this was their first time participating in a garden planting activity, and the joy on their faces said it all.
This experience was about more than just planting. It introduced children to where food comes from, helped them understand the importance of caring for the earth, and gave them a sense of responsibility. Each child played a role, whether digging, planting, or watering, and together they created something that will continue to grow long after our visit.
Through our Farm to ECE work with Boots on the Farm, we aim to make agriculture simple, accessible, and exciting for young learners. These early experiences help children build confidence, curiosity, and a connection to the land.
The raised beds planted at Greene County Head Start will now serve as living classrooms. Students can return to observe the growth and continue learning through hands-on experiences. Watching something grow that they planted themselves creates a strong sense of pride and accomplishment.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work with such bright young learners and dedicated educators. Moments like these remind us that planting seeds in the soil is just as important as planting seeds of knowledge in young minds.
Until next time, keep growing.
