May is one of the most exciting months at the farmer’s market! Spring crops are in full swing, and the stalls are bursting with fresh produce, vibrant flowers, and homemade treats. From juicy strawberries and crisp lettuce to fresh eggs and handmade soaps, this month offers something for everyone.
One of the best parts of visiting the market in May is connecting with local farmers. Ask them what’s growing, how they care for their crops, or how the animals are raised. Building relationships with your farmers means more than just shopping—it’s about supporting families, communities, and the land they care for.
Try this at the Market:
Let your child pick one fruit or vegetable they’ve never tried before. Ask the farmer how to prepare it. Then, cook it together at home! It’s a great way to introduce new foods while supporting local agriculture.

In Season This Month:
Fresh herbs (like mint and parsley) – Many fresh herbs contain the same nutrients as leafy greens, including Vitamins K, A, and C!
Strawberries – This fruit is a great source of Vitamin C, which helps to heal cuts and scrapes!
Kale – This leafy green has Vitamins A & C, calcium, and iron, which work together to protect your eyes, skin, blood, and more!
Lettuce – Lettuce is a great source of Vitamins K & A, and also includes folate! These nutrients work together to help your body heal and to keep your blood healthy.
Green onions – This root vegetable is high in Vitamins A, B, and C, keeping your body healthy and strong!
Snap peas – Snap peas are rich in Vitamin C & K, as well as iron! These nutrients help your body heal cuts and scrapes and keep your blood healthy.
So, grab your reusable bags and spend a Saturday morning soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of May. The farmer’s market is more than a place to shop—it’s a place to grow community.
